What an incredibly moving and sacred experience to be part of the Koth ceremony at Mahamevnawa Monastery. From the moment I drove onto the grounds, I felt a deep sense of peace and reverence, as though I had entered a place filled with centuries of devotion and spiritual energy. The air felt sacred, and the whole monastery seemed alive with quiet anticipation.
The ceremony began with monks and devotees gathering, their presence calm and humble. The procession that followed was something I will always remember. Dancers in traditional attire moved gracefully, each step a prayer, each gesture an offering. Drummers followed, their beats like a heartbeat through the earth, stirring something ancient inside all of us. It felt as though time itself had stopped, and the world paused to honor the sacred.
The Koth, a bundle of offerings, was no ordinary gift. Inside, it contained luminous pearls and precious jewels, each symbolising purity, generosity, and the treasures we offer on the path of awakening. These jewels weren’t just ornaments; they represented the wish for enlightenment for ourselves, our loved ones, and all beings.
As the procession moved toward the stupa, I could feel the energy grow, not in noise, but in presence and devotion. When we reached the stupa, the monks, using a truck lift, carefully placed the Koth piece by piece atop the stupa. They blessed the waters, filling them with prayers and kindness. Then, flower petals were gently scattered upon the jewel at the top of the stupa.
It was a moment beyond words. The petals danced in the sunlight like blessings from the heavens, not only touching the jewel of the stupa but also the jewel within each of us the awakened heart. I stood there, moved to tears by the beauty, reverence, and grace of it all.
The Koth, the jewels, the chanting, the dancers, the drummers, and the petals all came together in a beautiful act of devotion. It was a living prayer, a collective surrender to the path of truth, compassion, and freedom. This ceremony reminded me that enlightenment is not far away it is right here, in these sacred moments of offering, surrender, and connection.
I left the day changed. My heart was full, my soul at peace. My path was brighter, with deeper faith and a renewed commitment to release suffering and walk with grace, humility, and love. The blessing of the Koth will stay with me as a reminder that we are always close to the light.
“A Prayer of Dedication”
May the merit of this offering spread far and wide, filled with compassion and reaching all corners of the world.
May each step I take on this journey be guided by the light of wisdom, the strength of mindfulness, and the tenderness of love.
I dedicate the blessings of this Koth to all beings, seen and unseen, that they may be free from suffering, find peace, and awaken to the limitless light within themselves.
May my loved ones be protected and uplifted,
May those who are struggling find comfort and relief,
May those who are lost discover their way home.
And may this humble, healing heart continue to open, again and again, in service to the Dhamma.
May I remember this sacred day not only as a ceremony I witnessed, but as a vow I live by.
